AXIS Upcoming Feature Highlights #6 – April 2024

Hello AXIS Community!
It’s that time of the month again where we share with you what we’ve been working on deep in our caves in this installment of our Upcoming Feature Highlight (UFH) series! In case you missed the previous edition of the UFH, you can check it out by clicking here. We’ve got SO MUCH to share with y’all today, so let’s get down to what you can expect for AXIS in the near future!
Hip & Spine Determination – Beta Incoming!
You might have remembered this upcoming feature from our last UFH post (link above), which provides a significant increase in tracking performance in VR when using 4 nodes or more. We’re happy to announce that a Beta form of this feature will be included within the AXIS Control Center sooner than expected, and – most importantly – this feature does not need any 3rd-party software and is compatible with any PCVR headset!
We’re in the final testing phases for it, but its public release is right around the corner. The HSD is but one component of a larger framework to enable full body tracking in VR a reality with as few nodes as possible, so stay tuned right here for more news on this front! You can see a sample of this feature in action in the video below:
Enhanced AXIS Accessories
We are dedicated to enhancing your motion capture experience, starting with our AXIS accessories. Introducing our new AXIS Straps and AXIS Dongles! First off, we’re increasing the strap length on these, and improving its build quality and durability, ensuring a secure yet comfortable fit during your motion capture sessions. Check out the new PVC-covered strap tips and the much higher Velcro density on these early examples!

Additionally, get ready for a compact powerhouse – a redesigned AXIS Dongle! Despite its vastly reduced footprint, this upcoming new Dongle packs all the functionality of its predecessor, and it comes in USB-C (why this change? Let’s have some guesses going 😉)

(P.S. we’ll include a USB C-to-A adapter with the new AXIS Dongle, so don’t worry if you don’t have enough USB-C ports!)

In-Game Recalibration For VR
For our VR gaming enthusiasts, we have a game-changing feature on the horizon – in-game recalibration of your AXIS nodes! Say goodbye to interruptions during gameplay as you can soon recalibrate seamlessly without exiting or pausing your game. This enhancement promises to streamline your experience, keeping you immersed in your virtual worlds without missing a beat.
Magnetometer Toggle
AXIS uses its magnetometer to improve its overall tracking capabilities and accuracy over time. However, if your play area has high levels of magnetic interference, it would cause issues to tracking quality. Soon, there will soon be an option within AXIS Control Center for you to toggle the magnetometer off. When toggled off, recalibration might be necessary once in a while, but you would no longer be affected by the magnetic fields around you.
Single Nodes & Single Node Chargers
Ever wanted to buy just one additional node to complete your intended setup? Soon, you will be able to purchase our AXIS nodes on an individual basis! We’re also developing chargers for these extra individual nodes as well so that every node you own will have a home to call its own to recharge in.
AXIS Control Center Goes Mobile
There is a day in the near future where you will be able to utilize AXIS without the need of a PC as we develop an Android version of the AXIS Control Center! Soon, you’ll be able to harness the power of AXIS in the palm of your hand, opening up new possibilities for utilizing AXIS on-the-go, bringing convenience and flexibility to your motion capture endeavors.
Phone Straps & Holders – On Sale Soon
Thought of using your phone as an add-on tracker to your (incoming) AXIS Lite kit, but don’t anything to attach the phone to you? You’ll soon be able to purchase these – and more – on our AXIS Accessories Webstore! Check out our current offerings by clicking here, and perhaps bookmark it for when you’ll be able to purchase these.
Phew, that’s a long one! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to push boundaries and redefine motion capture technology with AXIS. As always, we’d love to hear your thoughts about the above, as with anything about AXIS. Your feedback and support drive us forward, and we can’t wait to share more of these upcoming features with you soon!

Best Regards,
The AXIS Team
