A – Competition network and WiFi

The network quality is very important to ensure a good stable connection between the PCs and VR headset.

For the best performance, it is recommended that both PCs are connected to the network via LAN connection.

The router/Wi-Fi node should be placed in a central location that provides the strongest connection for the VR headsets.

Additionally, if there are multiple courts in the same event space, it is recommended to have a dedicated access point (can be the same SSID) for each court.

Internet at 100 Mbps/s or more by Lan is required for the PCs.

B – AXIS

AXIS uses a wireless 2.4Ghz signal to transfer and receive data and has 11 separate channels to utilize.

When operating with multiple sets of AXIS in the same event space, the general principal as follows –

  • For each FOP, the two AXIS sets in use (blue player and red player) should be paired on different Wi-Fi channels, 1 odd number and 1 even number channel.
  • The difference between each odd and even channel should be at least +3. For example, e.g., if blue player’s AXIS is paired on channel 1 (odd number), red player’s AXIS should be paired on channel 4 (even number).

If there are multiple FOPs, each FOP should use a different combination of odd and even channels. E.g.,

  • FOP 1: Channels 1 and 4
  • FOP 2: Channels 3 and 6
  • FOP 3: Channels 5 and 8
  • Etc…

To determine which channels to use, WiFi analysis of the event space should be conducted.

To do so, you may use a WiFi Analyzer tool – https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer&hl=en_US&pli=1

The WiFi Analyzer tool provides an overview of the signals within the area. For the best performance, select WiFi channels for AXIS where there are the least overlapping signals. Using the image below as an example, that would be channels 5 to 10).

To reduce interference, you may also want to turn off other WiFi networks in the area that may not be essential. E.g. O’Briana’s iPhone (light green) has a mobile hotspot turned on channels 1-3.

C – VR headset

The VR headset requires a boundary to be defined. The game can only launch on the VR headset while it is in the boundary.

The boundary for all headsets should be set before the start of the event. The boundary should include both the “Preparation area” and the FOP.

All VR headsets must be connected to the WiFi network that is dedicated to the court that the headsets will be used in.

D – Power and electricity

There must be power sockets located near Operations Table and Preparation Area.

At the Preparation Area, power sockets are required to charge the devices (AXIS and VR headset) used during gameplay. All devices must be charging when not in use.

E – Equipment List

  • Minimum of 4 VTKD (recommended is 6) sets per FOP.
  • Each VTKD set consist of:
  • 2 AXIS and 2 VR headsets
  • 2 Laptops/PC per FOP.
  • 1 Game Master
  • 1 Spectator
  • 1 dedicated router with separate WiFi network (additional access points are recommended for each FOP).
  • 2 4-way extension plug per Operation Table.
  • 2 4-way extension plug per Preparation Area.
